10 Cool Summer Programs You’ll Find at Edmonton Public Library This Summer

Through the summer, the Edmonton Public Library provides a valuable resource. Not only can you keep kids interested in reading, with one adventure after another in their favourite book, but you can take part in the many, many free programming options for preschoolers, kids and teens, to keep kids entertained through the summer.

Tip: both drop-in, and registered programs are available – make sure to confirm this before you add the sessions to your summer plans.

What are some of the programs offered through Edmonton Public Library?

Lego Robotics Club | This Passport-style Lego club will guide you through a series of lessons and challenges to program Lego Mindstorm robots. The first 20 minntes of this Lego Club will include a live demo of how to program your robot and then EPL staff, software and laptops will be available to help you complete tutorials. Each week is a new passport challenge!

Lightsaber Training | Join other Padawans at the library to learn how to be a Jedi Knight with lightsaber training. May the Force be with you!

Minecraft Club | Meet up with other Minecraft fans to play your favourite game! Show off your skills and learn new tricks through different activities like designing the coolest fortress in creative mode, playing capture the flag, battling in tournaments or just hanging out and playing. Great for beginners and experts alike. Ages 8-12.

Evil Genius Club | Robot battles, Arduino hacks, DIY music, art, Minecraft, photography, 3-D design and printing are just the beginning for this club of maniacal makers. You’re invited to hang out, bring friends, try things and make stuff at this drop-in program.

Duct Tape Creations | Duct tape can be used for so many more things than just…well, taping! Join us as we explore all of the things you can make with duct tape, and then take your creations home!

Holy Hoopla | How many hoops can a person spin at one time?  Find out at Firefly Theatre’s Interactive Circus Workshop.  Come and learn how to juggle, balance a peacock feather or a spinning plate, spin some hula hoops, and try flower sticks, Chinese yo-yos, and more.  Children of all ages are welcome – you’ll be doing tricks in no time!

Urban Jungle | Do you have what it takes to navigate the city? Create your very own map using cut outs and found items to help famous storybook characters who are lost in the city find their way home!

Make and Take | Summer is the perfect time to let your creativity run wild! Come to the library for story or two, then stay to make a cool craft to take home with you afterwards.

What do you Wonder? | Have you always wondered why fish are not killed when lightning strikes the water? Or do you wonder who made the first computer? We have the answers. Come to the library with your best question and work together to find the answers.
