25 Family Friendly Things to do in Edmonton in February

February is here – that means heart shaped food, finally adjusting to the colder weather enough to want to spend more time outside, festivals and sun that lasts a little longer than usual. February also brings many free and fun activities for families in Edmonton, giving you the chance to check out new festivals, spend family day in Edmonton together and just get outside.

Here are 25 family friendly things to do in Edmonton, in February: 

1/ Flying Canoe Festival is a free festival designed to bring out the magic in winter, through legends and music at Mill Creek Ravine. There’s light installation, bannock making, story times and snow sculptures to get you outside, and get you immersed in the legend. (February 5-6)

2/ Heart shaped pizza to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Simply Supper is selling heart shaped pizzas for Valentine’s Day. You get 2-12″ dough and pizza sauce, for only $14. The best part? They’re all rolled out and ready to go.

3/ Silver Skate Festival and the fire sculptures are going to completely amaze the children this month. In addition to the ice and fire sculptures, you’ll find races, kids activities and so much more.  (February 12-21)

4/ Get Free admission to the Art Gallery of Alberta on the last Thursday of the month. It’s an evening out that’s budget friendly, and allows you to discover the new exhibits.

5/ Get your skates on and head to City Hall on Sunday afternoon to skate as part of Swing and Skate. It’s a fun celebration, and there are skates to borrow on a first come, first serve, basis.

6/ See the Peking Acrobats. You can get tickets, here. Tickets for the show are $34, but well worth the price from the reviews that we’ve read.

7/ Get a cup of hot chocolate on one of the local tobogganing hills on Sundays, as part of sip and slide, an initiative to get you outside on the snowhills. You can see the schedule, and find out where to get hot chocolate served up, here.

8/ Introduce your children to The Princess Bride during a Saturday morning pajama party at Telus World of Science. Get up early and explore before the movie starts.

9/ Bundle up and learn something at Family Nature Nights. It’s a free way to get out and enjoy the winter evenings, learning something new about nature in Edmonton and have hot chocolate. It’s free, but you must register ahead of time

10/ See a $2.99 movie on Saturday morning as part of Cineplex Family Favourites. The upcoming February features are: Hotel Transylvania 2, Goosebumps and Escape from Planet Earth.

11/ Try out the new kids meal (and a delicious option like the Holy Shittake for you) at LOVE Pizza

12/ Try the kids cooking classes at PC Cooking School and learn how to make things like Heart shaped pies and chocolate dipped pretzels. Classes range from $10-15/child and are scheduled throughout the month of February. More information at PC Cooking School

14/ If you haven’t checked out the Ice Castle yet, you can buy tickets online to make sure you get in, and explore the castle that includes a slide and a throne.

16/ Celebrate Chinese New Year in Edmonton at the Chinatown Celebration

17/ Ride the Zipline at West Edmonton Mall. Kids 45+ pounds can ride the Zipline for $20 the first time, and $10 after.

19/ Sunday pancakes. Find a delicious recipe that you can make at home, or check out one of our favourite places to get pancakes in Edmonton for a meal that you (and the kids) are going to enjoy.

20/ Tree a free baby and me yoga class in Edmonton. This class is for parents of infants six weeks or older

21/ Grab this groupon for Laser Tag, at Laser City and run around playing laser tag. It’s an easy way to save money for a kids night out (and you can join in too).

22/ Drop the kids out for a night (or three hours) and grab an adult only dinner. Places like Brickz 4 Kids or Colour Me Mine have options for Friday night fun for an average of about $30/kid.

23/ Grab a pair of snowshoes for rent from Strathcona Wilderness Centre and hit the trails. Wondering how to get started? There are $2 lessons to celebrate Family Day in Edmonton.

24/ Head to Millennium Place on a Saturday afternoon to play on inflatable obstacle courses in the deep pool. This is included with regular admission, but you should check the schedule to make sure it’s still available.

25/ Get tickets for Bobs and Lolo in St. Albert, performing on February 14. There has never been a Bobs and Lolo performance we didn’t enjoy!
