How To Take the Kids to the Movies, On the Cheap #yegkids

Taking the family to the movies on a regular night is one of those almost $100 events. Between the tickets and the snacks, if you’re taking a handful of kids you’re going to easily blow the entertainment budget for the whole week.

For that reason, we wanted to share some of the ways you can take the kids to the movies, on the cheap, in Edmonton.

Cineplex Family Favourites | Every Saturday morning at 11 am, there are $2.99 movies as part of the Cineplex Family Favourites program. The movies are older, but as the name implies, they’re family favourites. It’s popular, so you’re going to want to get there early or get tickets ahead of time – but it’s a great way to save.

Cineplex Tuesday Special | If you can’t make it to the movies on Tuesdays, you should try to hit up new releases on Tuesday nights, the traditional ‘cheap night’ at the movie theatre where you can shave a couple of dollars off of the cost of the tickets.

Costco Movie Tickets | Movie tickets purchased through the Costco website (Hint: you don’t need a membership to purchase) are available for purchase, and are delivered via email to the buyer. Buy these ahead of time, as it’s unpredictable when they’re delivered (anywhere from one to eight hours), but the bundle prices make movies more affordable.

Cinema City Movies 12 | $6.99 movies are an affordable way to see movies that are still considered new, but that have made their way out of the traditional theater. These lower priced movies, and reduced price treats, can help families to plan a cheap(er) night out at the movies. As a bonus, there is usually a decent selection of children’s movies available.

Free Movie Screenings | Outdoor through the summer months and frequently available through the year, free movie screenings through local organizations are a great way to get out for a movie date, without having to work it into the entertainment budget. Make sure you’re following our event calendar to stay up to date on free movies in Edmonton.

What are some of the ways you save on movie tickets and movie dates with the family? We would love to hear some of your favourite ideas for an inexpensive movie night out with the kids.
