Juice Bar, Endless Cupcakes and Mac and Cheese (5 Reasons You Need to Shop at Loblaw’s City Market)

There seems to be a new trend with Supermarkets, providing fresh food that you can take home and get on the table. Loblaw’s City Market in the brewery district makes me think about an article I read last week, where parents nowadays don’t really have to know how to cook because you can find so many fresh options, like getting Chef’s Plate delivered to your home or fantastic grocery stores with an abundance of options for getting dinner on the table.

Here are a few reasons to stop by –

Cafe Area
This is perfect for lunch when everyone wants something different. If you’ve got fussy children, it’s perfect. For lunch, we had a combination of a curry dish from the curry bar, soup from the soup bar, with fresh bread, a mac and cheese filled calzone, mac and cheese and a California roll. For the entire family, and a pretty good sized sampling of items, we got lunch for $36.

Juice Bar

It’s hard to find fresh squeezed juice on the shelf of the stores nearest to us, and it’s one of the reasons that we make the trip to city market. A litre of fresh squeezed juice is $6.99 (500ml for $2.99) in popular green juice combinations, or the traditional orange. It’s awesome, and gorgeous, and juiced in-store.
I really didn’t miss my hamilton beach machine back home when I went to this place!

Cake-ry
Cakes from $7.99 for a quick family birthday party, caught my eye, with flavours like bubble gum. More elaborate (and delicious looking cakes) can be found for around $20-25 and there are literally twenty different flavours of cupcakes. There’s even a chocolate section that had hundreds of tiny little chocolates to take home.

Pre-made Food
There’s a great selection of pre made food, as we talked about above when we mentioned what a great little spot it is for lunch. If you’ve got a lifestyle that leaves you reaching towards take out often, you might just want to give the Loblaw’s City Market a try. Some of our favourites are the mac and cheese that easily feeds our family of four, as a side dish, for $10, and the arancini. You’ve got to stop by and check out the selection for yourself.

Convenience and Price
It is convenient to have the comforts of the standard pantry-filling area of the grocery store combined with the market where you will find the juice bar, and conveniences like a meal of curry, rice and naan for the entire family for under thirty bucks. Get everything you need, for the week, in one place. The prices are competitive, but keep in mind you will pay a bit of a premium for pre-made meals, as with any similar store.

Want to stop by and check it out for yourself? Loblaw’s City Market can be found downtown in Edmonton at 12060 104 Ave.
