What to do in Edmonton this Weekend (with Kids) | February 24-26

It sure feels like Spring is in the air! With so many things to do this weekend with the kids, you’re going to want to add the outdoor activities to the top of your list. Here are a few family-friendly things to do in Edmonton this weekend – with kids:

West End Winter Festival | Saturday, 1-3
Winter Festival featuring kick sledding, snowshoeing, skating, carnival games, bannock making and food. Come join the festivities and enjoy the weekend with free events for the family. (snow activities dependent on weather).

Get Pretzels at Zwick’s | All weekend Long
Zwick’s Pretzels is brand new to the city and you’re going to want to get some. The kids loved the traditional butter and salt, and the cinnamon sugar, and they even liked the spicy scallion pretzel (our top pick). Most of all, they loved the breakfast sandwich. Not very big eaters, we got them one to share because they usually don’t finish their own food and they devoured it.

Family Skate, Pizza, Movie Night | Saturday 4:30 – 7:30
Come out with your kids for some skating fun followed by a pizza dinner together. Finish off the night with a movie! For the movie portion kids can bring mats/sleeping bags and even change into pajamas if they want.

Visit Ice Castles | All weekend Long
The weather has turned back in favour of the ice castles and the wonderful attraction is going to open for a few days, likely to be one of the last times you’re going to be able to see it all year. Check out the schedule on the website, and make your plans to visit Hawrelak Park.

Hot Chocolate, Skate and Marshmallow Roast | Sunday 1-3
Free Outdoor Ice Skating, Hot Cocoa and Marshmallow Roasting. This is a fun event for Everyone! Come out and meet your neighbours and have an afternoon of fun. (Ice skating dependent on weather).

Science in the Cinema | Saturday, 1 – 3:30
This features a movie where hapless young Viking who aspires to hunt dragons becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon himself, and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed. After the film there will be a Q & A with a researcher from the University of Alberta. This film is rated PG. Science in the Cinema is sponsored by the Arts & Humanities in Health & Medicine Program and the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta.

Science Demonstrations | Saturday 4:00 and 5:00 pm
Come pit yourself against the likes of Newton, Bernoulli and Ruben with our interactive Science Challenges on the Science Stage. Pull out the table cloth from a fully laden table, spin a full glass of water without getting wet or sing with the correct pitch to make the flames dance.
