What To Do in Edmonton this Weekend (With Kids) September 23-25

It’s free admission day weekend, and there’s ton going on in and around Edmonton for families to take part in. Head out to your local City of Edmonton favourite, like John Janzen, or the Zoo, for free. Explore a Pirate Pool party, complete with a treasure hunt, or shop one of your favourite local makers. Here are some of the things to do in Edmonton this weekend, with kids:

Shop, Shop, Shop (Local) | Shaw Conference Centre
The on the spot pop up sale is the perfect place to get a head start on your holiday shopping, with favourites from some of our favourite local stores like Portage and Main, 559 Toys, Baby Nell Designs, House of Posie and Wild & Free. Shop this weekend, between 10-4 at Shaw Conference Centre. Find a full list of the 200+ Makers, here.

Celebrate Free Admission DayVarious locations
Celebrate free admission day with everything from a Pirate Party and bounce castles, to a puppet show and free cake. There’s plenty to do on free admission day in Edmonton with the kids, just make sure you get there early enough to snag great parking and explore everything our city has to offer.
When: Sunday, all day

See Fireworks and Explore the Dark Sky | Bon Accord
A fun family festival that celebrates the magic of the dark skies. The equinox allows us to celebrate the fact that Bon Accord is the first community to receive this honor, and the festival with fireworks and family fun will celebrate all things dark sky.
When: Saturday, 5 pm – 11 pm

Harvest Festival | Stony Plain Pioneer Museum
Come and experience harvest as the pioneers did it! We will be using some of our large collection of vintage farm machinery to harvest our crop. There will also be live music, a petting zoo and face painters.
When: Saturday, 11-3

Indigo Kids Craft | All Chapters Indigo Stores
Storytime read by YOU! Be the expert, decorate a badge and help other kids find their favourite book. The event starts at 11AM (your local time) at Indigo and Chapters locations. Contact your local store for further details.
When: Saturday, 11 am

U of A Alumni Festival and Drive in Movie | Main Quad, UofA Campus
Come and enjoy an all day festival with food trucks, tethered hot air balloon rides, giant bubble soccer and fun for the entire family. Wrap up the day with more food trucks and a drive in movie for $15/car.
When: Saturday, all day

Celebrate National Forest Week | Alfred H. Savage Centre
Celebrate National Forest Week with Root for Trees! Enjoy the great outdoors and learn about the many benefits of the urban forest. Each day will be filled with activities for all ages including tree planting, seedling giveaways, presentations from Edmonton’s Urban Forestry team, a nature themed photo booth, forest trivia, interactive games, and much more!
When: Saturday, 10-3

Make a Leaf Placement | Michael’s Stores
Materials Included They craft, you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or just drop in. $2 per child, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.
When: Saturday, 10 am
