What To Do this Weekend in Edmonton (with Kids) September 16-18

Fall is here – can you feel it? It’s coming with the earlier sunsets, the cooler mornings and the fact that there’s a sense of quiet when the kids are off to school in the morning. If you’re searching for fun this weekend in Edmonton, we’ve got it – from the grand opening of a new sports centre in Sherwood Park, to campfires under the dark sky at Elk Island.

Movie Under the Stars | 10603 Ellerslie Road S.W
Join us at Ellerslie Road Baptist Church 10603 Ellerslie Road S.W September 16th for our Movie Under The Stars featuring Finding Dory! Admission is Free. Festivities begin at 6:00pm with food trucks, children’s activities and more. All are welcome and movie begins at sundown. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and cash for the food trucks.

Emerald Hills Sports Grand Opening | Emerald Hills (Sherwood Park)
Join us as we showcase this brand new multipurpose sporting facility and celebrate the Grand Opening of the Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion with activities for the whole family. The first 500 people who come will receive a free football flinger!

Red Fish Blue Fish, Family Fling | 401 Festival Ave
The Red Fish Blue Fish family fling, is geared for families and children, with over 40 family oriented vendors selling unique wares, with entertainment for the kids. Family fun includes a Paw Patrol show and visit, a Princess show and visit, Face Painting, coloring station! Raffle baaskets to be won, $5 ticket – all proceeds to The Families First Society of Fort Saskatchewan

Spruce Grove Harvest Fair | Spruce Grove Grain Elevator Site
Old-time farm games such as the Potato Sack Race, Stuff a Scarecrow Contest, Cross Saw Competition, Cow Milking Contest, and more! The Farmers Market, Grain Elevator Museum, SG Ag Society Concession, Spruce Grove Archives will also be open. Also again this year – the Prairie Ornamental Avicultural Association will be at the SG Grain Elevator Site. Great way to wind-up the summer!

Dark Sky Campfires | Elk Island Park
Leave behind the city lights and visit Elk Island National Park for an evening of night sky splendor! Search for stars or the awe-inspiring Northern Lights, and discover all that you can see and do under dark skies.
When: Friday, 8:30 – 9:30

Preschool Picasso | Art Gallery of St. Albert
Every third Saturday of the month, Preschool Picasso offers Creative art-making experiences in an art studio setting for children ages three to five. In preparation for some messy fun, bring an old shirt and a parent! Next class: Image Transfer on Clay. Inspired by Brenda Danbrook’s fascinating pottery installations and image transfer techniques, create your own image-transfer collage.

Creekwood Stock Family Celebration |
Head to Creekwood Park on September 17 and 18 from noon until 5pm and enjoy live music, free food truck favourites, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Take in a show or two, and catch a lift via horse-and-buggy to The Collections at Creekwood to check out the all-new Kid Zone, and see what the community has to offer.

Callingwood Fire Station Open House | 6210 – 178 Street
Meet your local community Firefighters and Fire Prevention Officers along with staff from Office of Emergency Management for a FREE Fire Station Open House. Check out the fire trucks and equipment, learn how to be fire safe, and know how to prepare your family in case of an emergency.
