What to do This Weekend in Edmonton (with Kids) | September 30 – October 2

Fall is here, and with it comes festivals and fun things to do every single weekend with the kids in Edmonton. Here are some of our favourite ways to celebrate the changing of the seasons, the fun things to do with the entire family and things to do in Edmonton this weekend:

Smoky Lake Great Pumpkin Weigh Off | Smoky Lake
Get out of town (it’s only an hour outside of the city) and touch a giant pumpkin. There’s a mini midway fair, delicious things to eat and drink, Farmer’s Markets, a pancake breakfast, petting zoo and at the end of the day there’s a great big pumpkin drop where a giant pumpkin will be dropped and smashed. Bonus? You’ll be home in time for bedtime!
When: Saturday, all day

Salisbury Village Grand Opening | Salisbury Village
Head out to Sherwood Park and check out the grand opening of the newest community, Salisbury Village. You can enjoy the showhomes, check out the community, visit the food trucks and check out the bouncy castle fun, for kids.
When: Saturday, 1-4

American Girl Playdate at Chapters Indigo | Chapters Indigo
Join us for a special arts & craft activity. All events are scheduled to start at 11am. Please call your local store for more details, and see which activitities are scheduled.
When: Saturday, 11 am

Celebrate Alberta Culture Days | Various Locations
Celebrate Alberta culture days with hands on activities, crafts and displays through various locations around Edmonton. Many of the sites include family-friendly activities and can be found at the link, above.
When: all weekend long

Horse Sense Open House | Horse Sense Farm and Petting Zoo
With plenty to do at the open house, families can take part in the carriage rides, visit the petting zoo, take a hay ride, eat free popcorn and feed and pet the animals. There are riding demos, goat races, and it’s $10 for 2 laps around the arena, with a picture, for children wanting to take part in the pony rides. Come have fun, and learn about the sessions offered. Come out and enjoy for only $20/car.

Kitchen Kids Cooking Class | PC Cooking School
Why let the kids have all the fun? Join them as we make a great alternative to the holiday meal! As great as turkey and mashed potatoes may be, occasionally you get tired of the same old holiday dinner. In tonight’s class we’ll show you how to create a new look festive feast that is sure to please and impress your family and friends. The menu features Sparkling Cider with Fruit; Creamy Potato & Ham Bake with Rosemary; Stuffing Balls; and for dessert, Cranberry Cake.
When: October 1, 11-1

Family Fun Film Festival | Royal Alberta Museum
The Family Fun Film Festival includes family friendly short films, face painting, virtual reality demonstrations, the opportunity to make your own short movie, free popcorn and more!
When: Sunday, 2-5

Free Admission to Leduc Rec Centre | Leduc Rec Centre
Come out to the LRC and enjoy FREE access to our great facilities, including the Aquatic Centre, Fitness Centre, Ice Arena and Field House. There will be bouncy castles and inflatable courses for the kids, and we will be selling hot dogs sponsored by Moo’s Healthy Fast Food with all of the proceeds going to Culture Connection Charity.
When: Sunday, 11-3

Fall Celebration at Hawks Ridge | Hawks Ridge Boulevard NW
Join us in Hawks Ridge at Big Lake for our Fall Celebration on Saturday, October 1 from noon to 5pm.
Discover 9 stylish showhomes and take part in fun activities: Enjoy food (on us!) by Orbit food truck and Jackie O’s Street Treats (mini-donuts!), Send the kids to explore the Adventure Bus – an indoor play area on a school bus, Discover the latest balloon creations by Choo Choo the Clown, Be sure to take home our gift to you – a double walled insulated mug, perfect for a hot beverage on a cool fall morning.
