10 Fun and FREE things to do this Week in Edmonton with your Kids

There’s going to be more cloudy days this week, but we’ve got the events and activities that you need to make the most of it. 

Drop in Risky Nature Pop up Playground 
Visit Jean Vanier School playground on Monday evenings to test out an innovative way of learning through play with Strathcona County Parent Link! This program will harness your child’s natural need to explore and imagine. This non-traditional approach to outdoor play is based on the concept of adventure playgrounds. The intention is to provide opportunities for children to freely explore unconventional materials and tools, with minimal rules. The environment is designed to involve risk.

Drop in: Make it Messy at the Library 
Paint? Crayons? Glitter? Glue? Get ready for some hands-on activities to express your inner self!

Harry Potter Hogwarts Party 
Calling all witches, wizards, muggles and squibs to a magical extravaganza celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday! Join us anytime from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for drop-in activities inspired by the Harry Potter novels. Psst… Costumes encouraged!

Free Movie: The Missing Link 
Movies begins at dusk in the Meadows. Catch a free outdoor movie. Remember to bring a chair, blanket or sleeping bag, as well as bug spray. Please remember there is no smoking in City parks and dogs are prohibited on City parkland, so please leave your pooch at home.

Family Park Night 
Amity House’s annual Family Park Night is running from July 3rd to Aug 28th this year! Come join us for an evening of games and activities for families to enjoy and foster community at Steele Heights Community Park. This week’s theme is THE AMAZING RACE! 

Family Nature Night 
The first Family Nature Night will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd at Hawrelak Park. Following that, you can expect new themes, at new locations, every Wednesday evening until August 7th.

Balloon Derby at the Library 
We’re off to the races, the balloon races that is! Explore physics and engineering in this balloon powered science activity that will propel you into the fast lane

Swim at Borden Park Natural Pool 
Get there early and spend the only sunny day this week (Wednesday) at Borden Park Natural Swimming Pool, or go on a day when it’s not going to be full sun and skip the wait in line! 

Free Drop in: Backyard Games
Giant Jenga, ladder golf, washer toss, etc. This is an all ages afternoon where you can try something new, or experience one of your favourite backyard games with the kids. Games are provided – just bring your family and be ready for fun.
