10 Things for Kids to See and Do at the International Children’s Festival – May 31 to June 4

The International Children’s Festival is right around the corner, and tickets are on sale today. Our best advice? Buy the ‘butterfly pass’. You get: one Feature Performance*, one wristband for unlimited access to all site activities and Toddler Town, professional face painting and one bag of popcorn.

Site activities are $3 each, performances are $11 – so when you factor all of that in, it’s a deal you’re going to want to take advantage of.

Professional Face Painting | Parents, if you buy the butterfly pass for the festival, you not only get admission to one of the shows included in the ticket, but you will also receive free professional face painting.

Take a visit to toddler town | This whimsical little town features storytelling, musical performances, colourful stamping stations, an exploration and free play area with hula hoops, balls and soft tumbling mats.

Make a Masterpiece (from Chalk) | Let your imagination soar as you indulge in some FREE Festival fun. Each child becomes the canvas with the help of our creative airbrush tattoo artists. Or unleash your inner artist at one of our sidewalk chalk stations throughout the Festival site.

Paper Making | More than just learning to recycle, children develop a new appreciation for this age-old invention by making it themselves! (Drop in)

Visit the Healthy Kids Tent | Join the fun as Save-On-Foods dieticians help their picky puppet-friend discover a rainbow of mouth-watering fruits and veggies. Puppet or kid, the benefits of healthy eating habits will last a lifetime. Then, under the guidance of a master sculptor, Peter Vogelaar, explore the world of sand art and create a sculpture in St. Albert’s largest sandbox!

Spot your Butterfly | Create a butterfly to be displayed indoor or outdoor, before or at the show, and add to the goal of creating 35,000 butterflies that will be on display and created through the festival. It’s the perfect finale for the ‘Butterfly Effect’ theme of this year’s festival.

Watch the Roving Artists | Get ready to meet some of the funniest, most original oddballs this side of your imagination. You never know what surprise or delight waits around the next corner – but no matter who you meet, your encounter with these gifted entertainers will leave you grinning from ear to ear.

Catch a Free show on the Enmax Stage | Every day the ENMAX Outdoor Stage is bursting with free entertainment from professional artists who truly offer something for everyone. Suspense-filled variety acts, vibrant cultural dances and quirky theatrical spectacles will have kids singing, dancing and clapping along.

See a performance | One performance is included in the butterfly pass (the best value) and you can choose from 8 different options. Each show has multiple performance times, so you should be able to get to see your first choice. Regular price without the pass is $11 – and the shows are well worth it.

Explore the Metis Discovery Tent | Tansi! Drop by our tent and get to know more about the Métis people of Canada as you explore authentic Métis artifacts like the Red River cart.
