25 Family Friendly Things to do in Edmonton in August

I can’t believe it’s August. Though July has been filled with incredible activities, it’s one of those things that makes me feel like rushing to fit in even more summer activities with the kids. With four weeks left of summer – we’re sharing some of the events and activities that you should do in August, with kids, in Edmonton.

1. See a movie on the square. Every Tuesday in August there are movies on the sqaure, with family friendly activities before the show.

2. Head out to Sylvan Lake for the day and bounce on the inflatable aqua splash waterpark, on the water.

3. Spend one of the rainy afternoons with $5 games of laser tag at Laser City

4. Take in a dance class at Miller Crossing Farmer’s Market – there are dance classes on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons for kids to take part in

5. Visit a local Fire Station open House

6. Spend the morning or afternoon at one of our new favourite playgrounds – there’s a zipline for kids to play on!

7. Try the new Cookie Butter flavour at Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt and follow our tips in the post to make it even more delicious.

8. Support the Stollery and host a lemonade stand with Simply Supper on August 21, 2016

9. Take part in the sleepover at Telus World of Science

10. Stop by one of the many Play Mobs happening around the city at local playgrounds, in August.

11. Explore, wade and spend the afternoon by the river

12. Rent a kayak and spend the afternoon exploring Astotin Lake at Elk Island Park

13. Get outdoors with Family Nature Nights

14. Get out to the free BBQ and pony rides at the Cowboys for Kids picnic

15. Take in the art gallery for free as part of Servus Community Access Night

16. Tube on the Pembina River with the kids – use these tips to get started planning your tubing experience

17. Have dinner on the field at What the Truck?!

18. Spend a morning or afternoon at one of the City of Edmonton outdoor pools

19. Get out of town and spend a Friday night at the Vegreville Fair

20. Spend the evening pretending to be a secret agent

21. Drop your tweens off for Neon Nights at Launchpad Edmonton

22. Run through the colored fountains (don’t forget the glow sticks) after bedtime and get wet!
