We’ve got one more month until the kids head back to school, and a full month that we can jam pack with activities, exploring the best of what Edmonton has to offer during the summer months.
Check out the Alberta Railway Museum, there’s a groupon to save 40% off of your visit. Remember, the Alberta Railway Museum is only open on the weekends, so head there early – it’s nice and close to town.
Try a kids cooking camp with PC Cooking School It’s only $20 for the month of August for kids to go experience a three-hour camp, with varying themes. There are multiple options to choose from, and suitable for kids 6-11.
Spend four hours playing games at the Rec Room. It’s $50 for a four-hour free play pass and multiple kids can play using the same pass.
Head over to Laurier for a pop-up adventure playground. It’s an afternoon filled with open-ended play opportunities.
Take the kids out for a paddle on Astotin Lake. Kayaks and canoes can be rented from Haskin Canoe, right at the shoreline.

Head to a new playground, we discovered one this month with two ziplines (Crestwood Playground) and a playground with a fantastic climbing structure created from ropes. Find all of the coolest playgrounds in Edmonton on our Youtube channel, with our playground tours.
Spend a Saturday morning at your local Home Depot store and build a Home Depot truck
Head downtown to celebrate cycling in the city, during the Cycle in the City Festival. It’s a full day of activities, with plenty of family and kid-friendly fun.
Take a $5 kids class at Greenland Garden Centre. When the class has finished, have a look around the greenhouse
Spend the day at Pembina Day use area, after tubing with the kids, or simply enjoying the river.
Take a day trip to the Reynolds Alberta Museum – check out our list of ten things that you can do while you’re there, with the kids.
Spend the day at the outdoor pool – it’s free and you can bring a picnic with you to make it even less expensive to beat the heat. Get there early, since admission is free all year, it gets busy!
Enjoy Family Nature Nights. Each week through the month of August you can head out to one of your local parks and learn more about the local ecosystem, with themed nights.
Check out the Drive in and night market, coming up on the 25th of August. It’s the chance to bring the kids to an authentic drive-in movie, and check out the market while you’re there. Load up the car with snacks, and watch Little Rascals on the big screen.
Head over to your local playground and take part in green shack activities for the kids. It’s kind of refreshing to be able to go to the playground, and not have to think about entertaining the kids. The green shack is an incredible program to engage kids in activities and games, while at the playground.
Get geared up in harnesses and explore the snow valley Aerial park, the playground for adults + kids is one of the top things that we’ve explored this summer – it was a blast trying to climb over, across and through the obstacles. Plus, the kids course is a great experience, even if you don’t make it up to the top levels. Here’s what you need to know before you bring the kids.
Ride the High Level Streetcar. It’s an experience that every family should have at least once during the summer months. You’ll get fantastic views of the city, and everyone can ride for under twenty bucks.
