Pop up Adventure Playground
July 29 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 5:00pm on Monday, repeating until August 19, 2019
Join us this summer to test out an innovative way of learning through play! This program will harness your child’s natural need to explore and imagine. This non-traditional approach to outdoor play is based on the concept of adventure playgrounds. The intention is to provide opportunities for children to freely explore unconventional materials and tools, with minimal rules. The environment is designed to involve risk.
“Children need a chance to explore, to test, to create, to build and rebuild their world and they need to be free to do it in their own way (Shier, 1984).”
Through taking risks, children:
• Build their capabilities
• Explore their emotions
• Expand their horizons
• Test limits and boundaries
• Learn how to fail and try again
• Become resilient and acquire coping skills
• Learn to take responsibility for their safety
*This program is done in partnership with the Gilmore Park Community League.*
DATE AND TIME: This is a 6 week drop-in program on Monday’s from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• July 8, 15, 22, 29
• August 12 & 19 (No program August 5)
FOR: Parents, caregivers and children of all ages
