Child Friendly Edmonton Debuts Playful Downtown Playdates Pilot Project

Child Friendly Edmonton is looking to make the downtown core more playful by making it a fun and safe place to be for children and their families. The pilot project will provide quality experiences, features and events for children and families in and around downtown.

When we lived downtown with young children, we would have found this a fantastic resource. Sure, there are the kids zones at the festivals, but getting out and meeting other parents also living downtown would have been an incredible experience. The truth is, there are many places to play downtown – and we’re excited that those experiences are being highlighted with the programs like these.

What is Playful Downtown Edmonton?

  • Initiating spontaneous play animation and programming
  • Creating a strong visual presence and infrastructure using sidewalk markings, signage, art and colour
  • Promoting existing child friendly features and events
  • Helping organizations and outdoor spaces to be more child friendly

Play animators will be available at each event to facilitate experiences for children of all ages that will include healthy, creative, self-directed play that promotes physical activity. Events are free, and take place between noon and three, on each of the dates.
