Things to do in Edmonton Thanksgiving Weekend with Kids | October 11-14

The cold weather sure feels like it’s here to stay. That’s not going to stop us from getting outside though, right? This weekend, there are plenty of ways for you to explore the city, from the corn maze after dark and exploring the haunted pumpkin festival at Prairie Gardens. If indoor activities are more your jam, we’ve got movies, movies, movies and local crafting and kids events.

WHAT TO DO ON FRIDAY 

Watch Toy Story 4 in IMAX 

Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody’s slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realize that they’re worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy.

Junior Geologist Tour at the Rock & Gem Show 

On Friday at Edmonton Rock N’ Gem Show we are offering an educational tour for kids, focusing on topics like fossils, the rock cycle, and different types of rock. Our tour guide will answer questions and give you an in depth look at world of gems and minerals. If your child is interested in rocks this is the tour for them!

Haunted Pumpkin Festival at Prairie Gardens

The Haunted Pumpkin Festival at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm, attracts families from across the nation to Edmonton’s countryside every fall! An autumn outing to the pumpkin patch and this charming month-long Halloween festival is an annual tradition. There’s been over 1 million guests to the farm have enjoyed the farm since 1956! 

The Foodbank Fundraiser at Bountiful Farmers’ Market 

In support of the Edmonton Food Bank, Bountiful Farmers’ Market is hosting a Thanksgiving Fundraiser. Participating food hall kitchens have created thanksgiving themed specials that will be available for two weekends only: October 4-6 and October 11-13. Customers can purchase a token from the information booth (beside Farmhouse Bakery at the South entrance) for a minimum $5 donation, which can be used for any one item listed below. All proceeds will be donated to the Edmonton Food Bank.

IndigoKids: The Gumboot Kids 

Join us for a fun, interactive, and musical event with The Gumboot Kids to celebrate the launch of their new Nature Mystery series for young readers. Meet Scout and Daisy, along with award-winning singer Jessie Farrell, as they explore the wonders of nature through songs and storytime. Following the presentation there will be a book signing with the authors and co-creators of the CBC Kids hit show Scout & The Gumboot Kids, Tara Hungerford and Eric Hogan, plus an opportunity to get your photo taken with Scout & Daisy!

Grab your leg warmers, short shorts, sweatbands and parachute pants. We are supplying the retro toques, 80’s beats, finisher medals and more! On Saturday October 12th, X Runners will weave through South Glenmore Park for 5km while rocking to the best music the 80’s had to offer!

Gateway to the stars at elk island park 

Let Elk Island National Park staff be your guide as you experience the wonder of the night sky above: Sign-up to view the countless stars in our galaxy and learn to navigate from one constellation to the next. Campfire, hot chocolate, s’mores and a friendly park interpreter are included.

Explore the Corn Maze After Dark 

On Friday and Saturday nights, you can explore the corn maze after dark – later than the rest of the week. The latest time to walk through the maze is 9pm, and you can bring flashlights, a headlamp, and a sense of adventure to explore the corn maze in the dark! Could you find your way out? Bring your bravest kids and get at it!
