What to do in Edmonton This Weekend (With Kids) April 29 – May 1

We’re fortunate to live in Edmonton, where weekends are lively with fun events for the entire family, kids events, and things to do and see. Here are some of our top picks for the family this weekend, in Edmonton.

Olympic Family Fun 
Brookfield Residental is hosting a fun, family-friendly activity where you can browse new showhomes in the Edgemont community, and take part in Olympic family fun games, meet athletes and even eat lunch and get a drink.

Hit up the Midway
The midway is in town at Abbotsfield Mall. Can’t make it this weekend? Don’t worry, there are a ton of festivals coming up all summer long (even in town) where you can check out the midway and get in on some of those carnival rides.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day 
It’s healthy kids day! Get out there, and get active. There are going to be free events on Saturday at local YMCA locations to encourage a healthy lifestyle for kids and families. You can try something new and take part in free family fun.
When: Sunday, noon to three

Japanese Children’s Day
In Japan, children have their own national holiday in early May –Kodomo no hi, or Children’s Day. Families fly colourful carp-shaped streamers (koinobori), display special dolls and ornaments and celebrate children on this festive day. Come see giant koinobori flying in the Kurimoto Japanese Garden, make your own carp streamer and other Japanese crafts to take home with you, and listen to Japanese folktales. Children’s activities are included in admission.

Explore Mactaggart Sanctuary 
Jump over makeshift bridges created with logs, get your feet wet in a creek and explore new trails. You’re going to love exploring the trails with the kids, but make sure everyone wears good running shoes, you’ll be there for a while.

Callingwood Market Opens
Bounce castles, a petting zoo, family fun and the chance to shop at some of your favourite local vendors at the Farmer’s Market, you’re going to want to visit Callingwood Market on the first day of the year it’s open (if anything to bounce and snuggle those spring animals!).

Inflatables in the Pool 
Millennium Place – Saturday afternoon. That’s where you want to be to run across an inflatable obstacle course in the pool. It’s a great way to tire the kids out and run off some of that weekend energy.
