It’s going to be a balmy -25 this weekend, so it’s the perfect chance to get back out there after the deep freeze hibernation we were in all week. Whether indoor activities are your jam, or you’re getting outside – we’ve got you covered for family friendly events in Edmonton this weekend.

FRIDAY

January Movie Night 

We run a Movie night inside our Large Hall on the third Friday of every month. January’s movie is Abominable (2019) (Run Time 1h 37min PG) on January 17th. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per family, which includes a bag of popcorn.

X barks the spot in PAW Patrol Live! “The Great Pirate Adventure!” It’s Pirate Day in Adventure Bay, and Mayor Goodway is getting ready for a big celebration! But first, Ryder and his team of pirate pups must rescue Cap’n Turbot from a mysterious cavern. When they do, they also discover a secret pirate treasure map! The PAW Patrol set out over land and sea to find the treasure for Mayor Goodway’s celebration before Mayor Humdinger finds it first!

SATURDAY

Spruce Avenue Hibernation Celebration 

Winter is a time for festive celebrations and community building, do not let the cold weather keep you away. All activities are free! Community league memberships and Spruce Avenue community signs will be available for purchase. Watch our Facebook page for weather updates (we will reschedule if the temperature drops below -21). Please join us and help celebrate winter in Spruce Avenue! Activities >Horse and wagon ride around our area, Noon until 3:00pm > Warm up around our outdoor fire pits and roast a hotdog, smores, bannock or campfire popcorn (available for free while supplies last). >Free skating and skate rentals, snowshoes and outdoor snow fort building. > Indoors we will have children’s imagination playground foam blocks for building, Jenga and connect-4 games as well as a mini carnival.

Throwback with the Sing-a-long Grease Screening 

Have you ever been to a film musical and had the uncontrollable urge to burst into song? Have you ever wanted to know what it is like to be a T-Bird or a Pink Lady, but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off? Well, now is your chance to don those pink jackets, grease up those quiffs and let your inhibitions go for an evening where YOU are the star. To kick things off, your Sing-a-long-a Grease host will lead a vocal warm-up, show you how to use your free fun pack during the film, as well as suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions.

Hazeldean Lantern Parade

Join us for our family friendly 2020 lantern parade! The fun starts at 3:30pm, where we’ll build paper lanterns together. At 5pm we’ll take a neighbourhood walk* and show off our creations! All are welcome to this free community event. *as it is supposed to be a cold weekend, the walk will be weather depending.

Millhurst Winter Green Shack (WEATHER DEPENDANT)

Get active this winter and learn to kicksled, snowshoe, cook outdoors and so much more! Join us three days a week for free winter programming! January 6th – 29th on Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30 – 6:00pm and Saturdays 1:00 – 5:00pm.

TRY IT: Mermaid Swimming Program

This program is a fun, safe, imaginative way to keep active! Please note, this program is BEST SUITED TO THOSE WHO HAVE GRADUATED FROM MERMAID UNIVERSITY (FIN FUN PROGRAM). Please inquire about how to take the Mermaid University program with In Your Element Mermaids. You are invited to participate in the Mermaid Swim Club put together by In Your Element Marine Education. We will reinforce tail safety, learn a few new swimming skills, and get an hour and a half of tail time at Scona Pool (10450 72 Avenue NW).

SUNDAY

Kids Yoga Class and Storytime at Chapters Indigo 

Join us for an exclusive kids yoga event featuring the storybook “Giraffe’s Can’t Dance.” 45minutes before store opening, kids yoga & mediation instructor, Sandra Nerona, will guide us through yoga poses, body awareness and breathing techniques. Along with the learnings, children will receive their own copy of “Giraffe’s Can’t Dance” to continue their journey at home.

Castledowns Winterfest

Yes. In the middle of winter we want you to spend some time outdoors. This Free Event does not require a ticket to attend. WinterFest is an annual festival to encourage people to get outside and get active. This years festival will have loads of fun for you and your family. Join us from noon to 3pm January 19th outside the Castle Downs Park Pavilion for some skating, kicksleds, and snow art. Hot chocolate to warm your belly and a sleigh ride.

Landmark Cinemas Kids Day 

Every Sunday, kids can get out of the house and score a movie ticket and Snack Pack (popcorn, drink, choice of candy treat) for one great, low price. Every movie, every Sunday. Landmark Cinemas’ Kid’s Day – turn the average Sunday into a movie-filled Funday.
