What To Do in Edmonton this Weekend (With Kids) September 2-4

The first week of back to school might mean earlier bedtimes, but we’re giving you a few reasons to stay up a little later this weekend. From a pajama party with free admission at the Valley Zoo, to a children’s festival and even the chance to celebrate the stars and learn something new at a dark sky preserve – here’s what to do this weekend (with kids) in Edmonton:

Sweet Sweet Corn Fest | Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm
Corn Fest celebrates sweet corn on the farm with our own fresh Alberta corn on the cob, steamed the old fashioned way! Get hands-on with corn dolls, corn stalks, corn mazeways, bunnies, potato diggin’ and wagon rides!
When: Monday, 10-6

Edmonton’s Biggest Pajama Party | Edmonton Valley Zoo
Family fun, free admission to the zoo, food trucks, live entertainment and contests. Come down for the fun, explore the zoo and more. This year, the event is a month earlier, so the weather won’t be as cold as last year – it’s the perfect time to take part in a pajama party to top off the first week back to school.
When: Saturday, 6:30-9:30

Joy of Mid Autumn Family Event | 11520 153 Ave
Join us in a cultural celebrating for Mid-Autumn – with Lion Dance Performances, Dancing, Tai Chi Demonstration and more. Check out the various tradeshow vendors, children’s games and entertainment lined up for the day. Thank you to Confucius Institute of Edmonton and ECBEA for the multi-cultural support and displays. Join in the Children’s Multi-Cultural Fashion Show and enjoy a fun filled day among family, friends, and community.

Sheep Leaving Parade| Fort Saskatchewan
Everyone is invited to join in the annual sheep leaving parade – the sheep will make their traditional walk from Legacy Park through downtown and ending up at the Fort Heritage Precinct. It is the final farewell to the sheep until next spring.addition to the Parade, there will be an opportunity to have fun with the sheep in Legacy Park. Starting at 10 am, families, visitors and residents are invited to come down to hang out with the sheep, talk to the Shepherd and watch the dogs work. Everyone can also have fun doing some cool, fun sheep themed crafts. The Funky Mango Food Truck will be on-site serving coffee, hot chocolate, and sheep nuggets starting at 9:30 am.

Symphony in the City | Sir Winston Churchill Square
This Labour Day long weekend, ATB Financial and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra are excited to bring back the incredibly successful ATB Symphony in the City! This event will be a chance for families to gather in Churchill Square to celebrate our city’s summer festival season with an glittering finale. Come experience some of Disney’s most well-known classic songs, performed by the ESO and supplemented by Disney animations appearing onscreen. This year’s Symphony in the City features a range of Disney classics, including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, The Jungle Book, and much more! Festival activities begin in Churchill Square.
When: 5pm on Friday and 3pm on Saturday.

Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve Party | Elk Island Park/Miquelon Lake
The Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve’s 11th annual Star Party will be bigger and better than ever before, featuring guest speakers and volunteer astronomers to help show you the stars with both solar and night sky viewing. The star party will be at Miquelon Lake Provincial Park on When: Saturday Sept. 3 and at Elk Island National Park on Sunday Sept 4, 2016.

Kites over Callingwood | Callingwood Sports Field
The 24th annual Kites Over Callingwood Festival will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from noon to 5 pm at the Callingwood Sports Fields. Build and fly a kite and enjoy the various activities like the Adventure Bus, Gigi and Friends and the Shriner Clowns. This free family event is great for all ages, young and old! Refreshments will be available for a small charge.
When: Saturday, 12-5

Party in Alexandra Park | Leduc
Inflatables, food trucks and spray parks, with family activities through the day beginning at 11 am, and continuing into the evening with a movie screening in the arena: Aladdin (5pm) and Jurassic World (8pm). Through the day, you can also take advantage of toonie admission to the outdoor pool.
