What to do this Weekend in Edmonton (with kids) July 1-3

Canada Day weekend is here and if you are lucky, you can start off the weekend with a fun-filled day of family activities, fireworks and outdoor celebrations.

Celebrate Canada Day

When: Friday, July 1

Sand on Whyte
Sand on Whyte brings the beach to you, with sand sculptures made from talented artists, for a ten day festival near Whyte Ave. It’s the perfect opportunity to get some of that beach-y feeling, without having to leave the city. Admission is by donation, and you can watch early in the festival to see the magic (and carving) happen.
When: July 1-10

Drop in Paddling
Drop into Rundle Park on Friday Nights until August 26th, between 6:45 and 8:45 for a fun drop in paddling session where you can try out kayaks, paddleboards and canoes on the pond for only $15/person.
When: Friday, 6:45 to 8:45

Miller Crossing Farmer’s Market
Stop by the Farmer’s Market and check out one of our favourite kid-friendly Farmer’s Markets in Edmonton – where you can get lunch from Molly’s Eats, while you shop the market for some inspiration for dinner. Come for the market and check out the fun, kid-friendly activities while you are there.
When: Sunday, 10-3

Peppa Pig Playtime at West Edmonton Mall 
West Edmonton Mall and Mommy Connections are welcoming Peppa Pig to Edmonton! Little ones and their families will have the opportunity to meet the popular British character during her first appearance in Edmonton. The first 300 families in line will receive a wristband and be given front-of-the-line access to meet Peppa Pig!
When: Sunday, 12:30 – 3:30

The Works Art and Design Festival
For 13 days every summer, The Works unleashes art & design throughout 1 square kilometer of Edmonton’s downtown core . Completely free to the public, the Festival is an extravaganza of visual art, design and entertainment that attracts artists and patrons from around the globe. Lots to see, walk through and experience for families.
When: June 23 to July 5

Mini Carnival at MillWoods Town Centre
Come on, come all to Mill Woods Town Centre on July 3rd & 4th, from 11 am – 2pm for some fun in the sun! Jump around Edmonton’s largest Hopscotch game, get your face painted or have your fortune told. Also, for your amusement there will be barrel races, line dancing, crafts, stilt walkers and balloon twisters. Don’t miss out on these great days of fun!
When: July 3 and 4

Strawberry Picking at a U-Pick
It’s the perfect time to head out to the farm and U-pick strawberries. Prairie Gardens is ready early this year and you’re going to get the biggest, juiciest berries of the year if you head out soon. Buckets of 4: of berries are $20, and 1.5L are $15.
When: Saturdays (picking day)
