What to do in Edmonton this Weekend (with Kids) January 13-15

The weather is supposed to warm up this weekend, just in time for a weekend spent in adventure – a weekend spent outside, and a kick off to one of the first winter festivals of the year – Deep Freeze Fest.

Here’s what to do this weekend, in Edmonton with kids: 

Deep Freeze Fest | Alberta Ave
Come for the outdoor fun, the ice sculptures and the chance to try something new. Explore exhibits and stay for the hot dog roast. Wondering what to do with the kids while you’re there?We shared seven fun activities, right here.
When: Saturday and Sunday

Southeast Winter Fun Festival | Kenilworth Community League
Explore many ways to have fun during the winter with many fun indoor and outdoor activities. Come out and enjoy Kenilworth’s Family Ice Trail. Once again this year we will have curling, an indoor preschool area, along with hockey for teens, brought to us by Vimy Ridge Leadership Students. This year’s indoor events includes the Free Photo Booth, entertainment, crafts, story time and tattoos.
When: Saturday, 11 – 3 pm

Lunar New Year Extravaganza | West Edmonton Mall
Edmonton Chinatown Multi-Cultural Centre’s 2017 Lunar New Year Extravaganza will feature a marketplace and an exciting showcase of Chinese performers celebrating the upcoming Year of the Rooster. This two-day event is an excellent opportunity to have a unique shopping and cultural experience at the same time!
When: Saturday and Sunday

Skate with the Oil Kings | Lake Summerside
Skate with the oil kings at this free event. You can meet your favourite player, and enjoy hot chocolate on the lake.
When: Sunday, 1-4 pm

World Snow Day | Strathcona Wilderness Centre
Embrace winter at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre, Alberta’s newest Biosphere, on Sunday, January 15. World Snow Day: The Beaver Hills Biosphere BioBlitz is a family-friendly outdoor event with educational activities including meeting an owl, learning from a wildlife biologist, becoming a Citizen Scientist, and celebrating Canada’s 150thanniversary.
When: Sunday, 1-4

Pancake Breakfast and Skating | Forest Terrace Heights
Come join us at the hall for a pancake breakfast and bring your skates to join your neighbours on the ice. Breakfast will be served 10am-noon. Breakfast by donation. Proceeds going to the Fulton Ravine Skate Park.
When: Saturday, 10 – 12
