8 Cool (and Local) Handmade Christmas Gifts for Kids #yeg #yegkids

You know how there are some gifts that are cherished because of the handmade stories that went into them? Those gifts handcrafted with love, and quality that instantly makes them heirloom toys you want to gift? After a weekend of craft-showing, and scouring local Etsy stores, we wanted to share some of our favourites with you.

Here are a few of our favourite cool (and local) gifts for kids:

Building Blocks | Oliver Apt.
These building blocks are so soft, and come with a wonderful, delightful bag to put them in. They’re at the top of my list for little kids, we love the shape. $40

Handmade Doll | Norah’s Knot
Though custom orders are closed for the season, this is one idea that you’re going to want to save for later. From the mermaids, to a doll that looks just like your little one – these come highly, highly regarded.

Hello#YEG Book | Jason Blower
The Hello YEG Book is one of our favourites since we first discovered the Kickstarter earlier this year. This weekend, at the Make it show, we picked up some stickers to go with the book and a delightful print. $25

Rocketeer Tee | Locomotive Clothing
The first thing that you’re going to notice about these tees is how soft they feel. We love the designs – they’re so rad. $22

Hipster Kids Leggings | Hot Dame
The kids leggings can be made in any of the adult fabric, is what we’ve heard and we’ve got our eyes on a pair of kitten leggings that might just make for some exciting mother/daughter matching wear. Get the quality of your adult leggings, in awesome design for little kids. $34+

Family Dolls | Mamamor
There are breastfeeding dolls, birthing dolls and family dolls. These are fantastic! If you’re looking for a different kind of doll, a real kind of doll, this is our top choice.

Lawn Dice | Oak and Twine
Lawn dice, or you know, rug dice if you’re going to bring some fun indoors through the winter season are going to be just as fun to stack as they are to play giant dice game with the kids.

Tipi | House of Hale
Nine square feet of awesome, is what these tipis should be called. I covet that white and black one so bad it makes me wish that I wasn’t already finished Christmas shopping for the girls. Maybe, just maybe, I would. Note: orders are closed for the holidays – stash this idea away for next year.

What are some of your favourite local designers and sources for kids gifts and toys? We would love it if you shared that with us, over on Facebook.
