Five Free Kids Activities You Can Do at the Fringe Festival #yeg

The Fringe Festival is here (August 14-23) and if you’ve got children who might be a bit too young, or short attention spanned, to take in a show, that doesn’t mean you have to skip it. The Fringe Festival is actually a great way to take in some budget friendly fun before summer comes to an end – here are some of the free activities for kids you can do while you visit the Fringe.

Note: KidsFringe is located at the North end of the Fringe site on 104 Street between 85 and 86 Avenues.

Take a Yoga Class in the center square. Kids can get zen before they get silly and watch the many free sources of kids entertainment at the Fringe. The fun half hour session will have kids twisting ways they’ve never twisted before – don’t worry parents, you could probably join in too. Hosted by Glow Yoga. There are even classes for the tiniest of Fringe goers, here on the calendar for Tiny Tots.

Try a Stilt Walking Workshop and learn a new skill. There are two days where stilt walking workshops will have kids enthralled when they get to step to new heights, literally. Workshops are on August 16 and August 22, you can see the full calendar, here.

Chalk it Up Kids Workshop. Kids and their families are invited to join us as we “Chalk it up” with Jenn Poburan, SupercaliFRINGEilistic Festival poster designer and talented local artist. Jenn will lead a hands-on workshop on chalk art, resulting in a colourful addition to the KidsFringe site featuring the work of all the kids involved. Find it at the Fringe August 20, 11-12:30.

Recycled Arts and Crafts. These arts and crafts made from recycled materials are a hit with the kids at the festival. Stop by and make something, and bring it with you when you go. It’s a fun way to break up the activities between the different shows and roving entertainers – and you can work yourself up an appetite to grab a snack on the go.

Share Your Idea for the Museum Move.  Visit the museum’s tent in KidsFringe to make your mark on the idea wall. Share your ideas about what you want to see and do in the new museum. Learn more about this mammoth move and touch some real museum objects. This whole ‘touch things’ gets our kids attention.

You can find these activities (and many more) in the full calendar for the Kids Fringe Festival, here. Want to stay up to date on the activities and get the information you need to plan your day? Get the Fringe Festival app for iOs or Android.
