Where to Find Petting Zoos and Farms in Edmonton and Area

Petting zoos and farms – easily one of the best days ever if you’re a little kid (and let’s face it, if you’re a parent too). This summer, we wanted to keep weekend trips close to home, and make day trips easy. We’re going to try and visit all of the petting zoos and farms in the area, and snuggle as many animals as we can.

Callingwood Farmer’s Market

During special event days, you can find a mobile petting zoo at Callingwood Market. Easily one of the kids favourite reasons to go to the market (you know, aside from the kettle corn), the market is a free and a fun way to spend a day during the weekend. Plus, there are often other fun activities for kids, like bouncy castles.

Horse Sense Petting Zoo

Feed and pet the many exotic and domestic animals. It will prove to be an educational and great fun for all ages involved. Group tours are by appointment only (minimum fee applies). The price is $7/child, and pony rides may be available for $10/child. Summer hours for the Drop in Petting Zoo at Horse Sense are weekends, between 11-5.

Prairie Gardens Petting Farm

You can feed pygmy goats and other animals, and take part in so many more activities at Prairie Gardens. While you’re there, you can see goats walk on the roof and walk through the maze, just past the farm – all included in admission.

Zoo2U

As the name implies, this one’s a little different. Zoo2U will bring animals to you, as part of a birthday party or other celebration – or, you know, if you just want to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon with your choice of animals. Our top choices? The pig. He’s cheeky, hilarious, and you get to feed him. The adults at the party we went to may have liked him even more than the kids.
